Claude Fable 5 Is Coming Back: Export Controls Lifted, Redeployment Tomorrow

After 19 days offline, Anthropic says Fable 5 returns globally on July 1 with a new safety classifier — and a fresh included window through July 7.

The Controls Come Off

The suspension is ending. On June 26, the Commerce Department approved access to Claude Mythos 5 for more than 100 trusted US institutions — "I have determined that appropriate safeguards are in place," Secretary Lutnick wrote — and today the export controls were lifted entirely. Anthropic published "Redeploying Claude Fable 5" and announced that the model will be "available again globally tomorrow," July 1, across Claude.ai, Claude Code, Claude Cowork and the Claude Platform.

What Changed

The redeployed Fable 5 ships with a new classifier that Anthropic says blocks the reported cybersecurity technique in over 99% of cases. Anthropic also disclosed that its post-incident testing found other frontier models — Claude Opus 4.8, GPT-5.5 and Kimi K2.7 — could identify similar vulnerabilities, and it has partnered with Amazon, Microsoft and Google on a shared framework for judging jailbreak severity: capability gain, breadth, ease of weaponization, and discoverability.

A Fresh Included Window

With the return comes a new arrangement for subscribers: from July 1 through July 7, Fable 5 is included in paid plans for up to 50% of weekly usage limits, after which access shifts to prepaid usage credits at API rates. It's a shorter, more measured window than June's — a sign Anthropic is still balancing white-hot demand against capacity.

Our Take

Nineteen days showed how quickly access to frontier AI can vanish — and how quickly it can come back once safeguards satisfy regulators. At TSS we're resuming our Fable 5 work on July 1 with the calendar marked for July 7, and a new appreciation for building workflows that can switch models gracefully.
